I got Essie Grow Stronger Base Coat a few months ago, and initially I hated it. According to the box it’s a “fortifying” base coat for “soft, weak nails”, which is what I have. I got this for free so maybe I shouldn’t have been as disappointed with it as I was at first, but whatever.
Anyway, I tried using this as my base coat, under Essie’s and other brands, with the universal result that my polishes were super duper chippy and my nails peeled like crazy. I got annoyed with it, and decided I was just going to use this for pedicures, which it was great for. But on my fingernails I went back to use Orly Nail Defense and NutraNail ridge filler, which is a combination that’s always worked great for me.
Then about a month ago I couldn’t find the NutraNail and in lieu of it was forced to use Essie Grow Stronger. Well guess what? That combination works great. I haven’t been posting polish pictures so frequently because my manicures will last 4-5 days (or longer if I put something like Orly Bonder under it as well), so I’m really only doing my nails 1-2x a week. It seems as though as long as I combine this with a protein treatment it works great for my nails.
